Palace III is an elegant mansion, set amid the dramatic scenery of a pine hill on Trieu Viet Vuong Street, about 2km from the center of Dalat city in the southwest. The palace was built in 1933, and in 1950 when France returned to Vietnam and put Bao Dai as the puppet chief, he used Palace III as a place to work as well as a place for his whole family.
Bao Dai Summer Palace
The palace was designed in European architecture, including two floors with 25 luxurious rooms. The campus outside the palace has a small flower garden in the style of the French palaces. The ground floor of the mansion was used by the former emperor as a workplace, meeting, reception, banquet, and dining room. In particular, the rooms are mounted in harmony with each other through glass doors and glass-framed windows.
The living room is a place for guests to wait for the king's opinion. There are artifacts in the room: the piano that the queen and the princess often play; a lacquer painting depicting Angkor's power from a Cambodian friend in 1951 on the occasion of King Bao Dai's birthday; oil painting painted the landscape of Thai Mieu in Hue.
The second floor is dedicated for the royal family members.
Bao Dai Summer Palace
The second floor of the palace is used for family, including the living room, the bedrooms of King Bao Dai, Queen Nam Phuong, princesses, and princes. After dinners, the king and his family stayed in the living room to chat and teach his children. There are six chairs here; the large long chairs were for the king and queen; two armchairs on either side were for the princes, and the remaining three seats were for three princesses.
On the upstairs, the largest room is the king's private room. The artifacts in the room remain the same. Outside this room is Vong Nguyet belvedere. The real name of King Bao Dai is Nguyen Phuc Vinh Thuy, the son of Khai Dinh King. After the Nam Phuong Queen came to France, he lived with Mong Diep in Da Lat.
